How I Developed A Healthy Attitude Towards Eating
We do it from day one of our existence, we do it multiple times a day to function properly, and yet eating can be so so complicated.
Food is fuel. It’s a way to nourish our bodies. It’s a means for humans to gather and socialise. It’s a means to stave off those pesky, painful hunger pangs.
Despite being so essential and so simple in its essence, making decisions regarding our diets is more complex now than ever. Modern supermarkets paralyse us with choice and quantity, meal delivery apps make even a monthly takeaway feel stressful, and don’t even start on the menace of apps like MyFitnessPal.
We find ourselves influenced by social media, by external and internal guilt, by constantly evolving ethical discussions, and of course, by diet culture. Amongst all this, how can we possibly develop a healthy attitude towards eating in this twin age of excess and malnourishment?
I’m a long-term eating disorder survivor. I’ve been through various kinds of eating issues since the ripe age of 7 years old, and have only had a truly balanced relationship with food since turning 25. It’s been a very rocky road, seemingly easy sometimes and absolutely hellish at other times.
